About Us

What Can We Do

The lndian Maritime Law Association (IMLA) is the newly formed a non-governmental organization devoted to the unification of maritime law and is the only organization in India who is supported by Director General of Shipping, INSA - Indian Ship Owners Association, main lines and people entire people of the Indian shipping industry and ministry of shipping. Indian Maritime Law Association is affiliated to Comite Maritime International Belgium.


India - Indian Maritime Law Association (IMLA) may participate in the development of maritime law, for example, by making their personal views or the view of their industry sector known to the CMI - India - Indian Maritime Law Association (IMLA), who will endeavour to present a balanced view of maritime interests in India to the CMI and other associations concerned with the making or development of maritime law. Indian Maritime Law Association (IMLA) also organizes talks and seminars from time to time to promote discussion on the issues of maritime law.

lndian Maritime Law Association is the first official Indian Maritime Law Association which include maritime lawyers all over the country, Port operators, Shipping lines, Ship owners and people from shipping industry. We have the full support from the Indian Ministry of Shipping, Director General of Shipping, port operators, and port users. Director General of Shipping has enrolled as a member of the organisation and has given his assurance that he would be an ex-officio member of the governing committee of the organisation. Our aim is to promote India as a maritime country, and to promote and advocate the advancement of Indian Maritime interests both within India and globally and to participate and assist in drafting maritime and admiralty statutes , rules and regulations , and participate in committees and other bodies in this behalf;

CMI-India , Indian Maritime Law Association is also formed to encourage the study and development of Indian maritime and mercantile laws as also their uniform implementation all over India and to organize and put forward a united front to safeguard and protect Indian maritime interests from any threat whatsoever source and to take all steps and measures necessary for the furtherance of the objects of the organisation.

— Membership —

The membership of the association is open to all who have completed the age of 18 years and who agree with the aims and objectives of the association . They shall have to abide by the rules and regulations of the said association . Membership will be allowed after consideration and approval of the managing committee.
Managing committee keeps the right to reject any application for membership without giving specific reasons.
